Gabriela Díaz Velasco’s “Zapping” Collages Photos with New, Strange Faces

Zapping - Art by Gabriela Díaz Velasco

I think these collages are a bit strange-looking. They are by Gabriela Díaz Velasco, who is from Bogota, Columbia. For this series Zapping, the artist has appropriated photographs by others, including portraits from a wedding, a graduation, and other events. She also used the work New Brighton, Merseyside from The Last Resort, 1985, by the British photojournalist Martin Parr. She has then replaced the faces of the people with her own drawings. The drawings are not realistic — they use visible hatching, and some of the people have multiple sets of eyes, or other surreal features.

Note: There is an accompanying animation on the Behance page for Zapping, which I cannot embed here. I personally find the animated drawings more to my taste, but they also qualify as unusual.
