Gelrev Ongbico Explores Nature in Illustrations

Fantastic Mr. Fox Doesn't Feel So Fantastic Anymore - Illustration by Gelrev Ongbico

These gorgeous images by Gelrev Ongbico depict nature — particularly some of the conflicts between man and the environment. The artist creates his work using ink, watercolours, poster paint, and digital techniques. Both the woods and bodies of water are recurring backdrops for these illustrations. Distraction shows a man on a surfboard, oblivious to the sharks who lurk beneath him. An egret stands on a discarded tire in Marshland vs. Man, and a deer watches a boy reading in Wind in the Willows.

I really love the simple silhouette-like treatment of the bear in Hello Little Butterfly, the boat in The Fishing Trip, and some of the other animals shown. I also think the way the artist uses splashes of ink and paint to add texture over the flatter, watercolour-like, parts of the painting is great.
